Wart removal is both a medical treatment and a beauty treatment. If you have one or more warts you are
one of very many people, and your condition is very common.
Warts are mass problem and it is surprising that in treating so many the available treatment varies so greatly
and that there is such a wide range of opinions as to which treatments are the most effective to get rid of
warts.
There are a number of remedies for warts out on the market. Different wart removal options comprise of
either:
- over the counter treatments
- or are surgical in some form.
Wart removal is often quite a simple procedure. It is simply necessary to show the warts to one's doctor
immediately after they are first seen. Wart removal is indeed often best left to a skin doctor or a
dermatologist.
However, there are be times when you may wish to use herbal and other proven techniques and the best of these
can enable most users to take care of their warts themselves.
Wart removal is still far from being an exact science. The duct tape method (once proved, then disproved) didn't
do anything for me but make it spread and stink like Satan's armpit.
Treatment has to be repeated at intervals until warts are completely removed. Laser and other surgery may be the
last resort if the wart removal is unsuccessful for persistent warts.
Treatment and removal of warts can be tough to do for the minority but for most of us it is not that
difficult.
Most wart removal medicine takes a long time and a lot of work.
Surgical treatment options may cause scarring at the site of the removed wart, and wart removal is not proven to
limit the risk of contagion.
Cauterization is the medical term for burning of the skin growth. It is used in conjunction with electric
current and this removal treatment is sometimes called electro-surgery.
Cauterization may be carried out using a laser.
Freezing is another commonly used method with warts that do not response to the first treatment prescribed by
your physician. Freezing the warts kills the infected tissue so it cannot grow or spread to other areas.
Cryosurgery typically requires multiple visits to the doctor for its completion.
Liquid nitrogen sprayed onto the wart (or applied with a cotton swab) to freeze the wart. It is subsequently
replaced by natural growth of healthy skin and the wart peels away after a period of time. This is still one of the
most effective of wart therapies.
Wart cures by cauterization or freezing are medical treatments that can only normally be done by a doctor, or
possibly your dermatologist.
Typical common warts (the type that are raised and are rough-edged and either skin-colored or slightly lighter
or darker than skin color) do not have to be treated unless they are causing you dicomfort, or are cosmetically
obtrusive. If the wart is in an area that receives a lot of friction and it becomes irritated or painful, then
cetainly removal should be considered.
Much wart treatment is expensive, requires administration by a physician, and requires expensive follow-up.
Despite these measures, the consensus of opinion appears to be that the wart returns about one-third of the time,
or new ones crop up around the edges of the old one.
Treatments that are less likely to leave a scar include salicylic acid, cryotherapy, and laser surgery.
Choice of the treatment method for wart removal also depends on the location of the wart, size of the wart and
the severity of infection. After warts are reomoved the virus may remain in a condition of latency for some time.
At some point in time the infection may come back again and new warts begin to reappear.
Viruses that cause warts belong to a "family" called human papillomavirus (HPV). There are over 100 different
types of HPV. Virus particles migrate down the nerves to the affected site in the skin where the primary infection
previously occurred. Certain factors such as stress, fever, menses, and sun exposure may precipitate recurrent
infection.
Remember that common and plantar warts may come or go, but genital and anal warts can pose real health risks.
See your doctor to get rid of warts like that.
Also, remember that plantar warts are very contagious and will easily spread in warm and moist surfaces. It is
caused by a viral infection called the Human Papillomavirus (HPV), and is so contagious that the slightest contact
is enough for it to spread.
Remember at all times to be gentle on your skin and prevent excess irritation and even
bleeding.
